Adam Straney is a musician, producer, and DJ, who is currently based in Seattle and performs solo as Senator Adam, or with his band, THE NEW LAW. As the main producer of THE NEW LAW, his group has released three full instrumental albums to shining reviews, in which the latest album, “The Fifty Year Storm” was released in January, 2012. Some recent reviews of this latest abum are:
“The New Law’s ‘The Fifty Year Storm’ continues where “High Noon” left off. It’s a beautiful, cinematic soundscape of warm electronics and chill horns that makes up the perfect soundtrack for the new year.” – John Richards (KEXP, The Morning Show)
“THE NEW LAW – The Fifty Year Storm gets a “five”… it’s “DJ Shadow meets Ennio Morricone in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and they kick some ass together and we get to watch.” 5 out of 5, – Trippin the Rift
“It takes you on a beautiful journey… It really draws you deep into the atmosphere. “ – Broken Culture Review
“Infinitely beautiful instrumental hip-hop.” – Sashiblog Review
“An epic, wide-screen, and unapologetically dense blend of hip-hop-&-trip-hop that’s laced with seething breakbeats and a web of samples and acoustic and synthetic sounds.” – Textura Review
THE NEW LAW has released various singles and collaborative projects, such as the tune “Showdown”, which was remixed by Fanu, and featured vocals by rapper Lokeye and Idiot Pilot’s vocalist Michael Harris. They have also been featured in independent films, extreme sports videos, and even a full production, top selling, star-studded cast adult film (the music fits pretty well…).
Under Adam’s solo alias, Senator Adam, he runs and maintains a DJ mix series called NOD YOUR HEAD Podcast. The podcast focuses on instrumental beats of all types. Instrumental hiphop, downtempo, dubstep, drum & bass, trip hop, glitch, and all other types are mixed together harmonically to keep the listeners’ heads nodding. The podcast features mainly independent, less known artists from all over the world. The focus and drive to make this podcast came about when Adam noticed that so many amazing producers were making incredible music, but their music getting the recognition it deserved. He decided that there needed to be an avenue for these artists to be heard. Thus, “NOD YOUR HEAD Podcast” was born, and since then, it has become one of the leading and most downloaded instrumental-beats podcasts online.
Adam recently placed 2nd in the Seattle Laptop Battle of 2012 among 15 other contestants. That was a fun night…
