Stumbleine – The Night Before

First off, if you are in Seattle tonight, Aug 8th, I’ll be playing at Rebar from 11-12 doing a live PA. I’m opening for the Alphabasic tour with Bartel and the Flashbulb. It should be an amazing night of music.

Secondly, I want you to buy this EP. It’s fucking beautiful. Synthgaze/chillwave/post-dubstep/nightbus… whatever you want to call it. There’s a lot of producers making it lately, yet few do it as emotionally moving and fresh as Stumbleine does…

Vanilla – Soft Focus

Vanilla’s “Soft Focus”, which came out in May this year, is one of those albums that sounds like its title.  The album is full of beats with of old RnB/Disco/and other vocal jams, but the sound is slightly blurry in a good way.  It’s soft and smooth to the touch, and dare I say the cliche: warm.  There are tons of instrumental hiphop/beats albums that focus on chopped samples, but few sound and feel this good.

XXYYXX

Check this kid out. Super deep, stoney, Burial-esque style tunes that drip and drop into your brain. The producer is 16 years old, so you’ll be hearing a lot from him for quite a while I reckon:

Phonographique – Heady Hip-hop Beats From Up North

Check this label out – Phonographique.  They just came out with a new release by Vancouver’s mikedecline.  As stated by the label-head, Ryan, “This 13-track instrumental album is the next step forward into Vancouver’s ever evolving beat scene and has Mike incorporating the vocal talents of Ashleigh Eymann and the turntable domination of K-Rec.”

This one is really nice on the headphones with some herbal… tea. Good head-noddin’ beats, solid classic scratching, and various chopped samples and vocals are the order of the day.
