Check this label out – Phonographique.  They just came out with a new release by Vancouver’s mikedecline.  As stated by the label-head, Ryan, “This 13-track instrumental album is the next step forward into Vancouver’s ever evolving beat scene and has Mike incorporating the vocal talents of Ashleigh Eymann and the turntable domination of K-Rec.”

This one is really nice on the headphones with some herbal… tea. Good head-noddin’ beats, solid classic scratching, and various chopped samples and vocals are the order of the day.

Berry Weight is a soulful electro-organic-space-jazz duo, harmonizing storybook-like melodies and cinematic atmospheres. Sounds are brought to you by instrumentalists/producers/DJs : Apewok & Stab from Canada and Switzerland, occasionally to be accompanied by Danish singer-Astrid Engberg and French clarinetist-Kledsy Jy. These guys make beautiful, jazzy, downtempo.  Turntablism meets live jazz and chopped breaks.  Clarinet, electric pianos, dusty samples, and laid back grooves make for a perfect Sunday coffee vibe.  Get this album.  You can always tell when certain musicians do exactly what they want to do for the love of it.  This is one of those groups.

First of all, I just want to give a HUGE thanks to all that have supported my newest release from THE NEW LAW, “The Fifty Year Storm”.  This was our 3rd album, and it was done all independently from beginning to finish.  The only reason it is spreading is because of the fans.  You guys are amazing.

Secondly, I’m going to get cracking on the podcasts again.  It’s been a while, and I’ll have more time now that the album is out.  So keep an eye out.  For now, check out this recent release from Switchstance Recordings from Cologne, Germany.  You might recognize the label from the Ancient Astronauts releases.  Organic saturated breaks, funk, and samples galore all over the album.  The album is mixed and produced with amazing clarity as well.

THE NEW LAW – Voyage by thenewlaw

Here’s a brand new album of old Dday One beats that have recently been restored. It has some serious sample-based beats that sound along the lines of old Shadow Records stuff. Actually, it sounds a lot like Hive’s “Working With Sound” album, which is one of my favorite albums of all time. It’s really that good. Get it.

This project of early-works was originally circulated as a cassette, limited to 20 copies.

Recently, it was restored using modern audio restoration and preservation techniques.
This process involved digitizing material from 4-track, 3.5” floppy disc and one of the surviving tapes.

The title “Mood Algorithms” reflects the compositional process in which beats were created with inspiration from daily moods. The cover art, created by British designer Oliver Cartwright (www.olivercartwright.com), illustrates the sequence of these moods which are represented by the array of vivid colors.

German producer, Immortal Beats, has released a free album/EP for download called “Eyes Shine Bright”.  This has some serious jams.  They’re all short beats but they cause some serious head nodding.  Definitely grab this one.  I’m blasting it right now.
